Indica vs Sativa vs Hybrid: A Simple Guide
23/10/2026Thailand’s cannabis rules have changed several times since 2022, and many guides online are now out of date. This page summarises the current position as we understand it in October 2026. It is general information, not legal advice, and the rules continue to change, so check official sources before you travel.
A short history
In June 2022, cannabis was removed from Thailand’s narcotics list, and shops opened across the country with little regulation. In June 2025, the Ministry of Public Health reclassified cannabis flower as a controlled herb, bringing in much stricter rules on who can buy it and how.

Do you need a prescription?
Yes. Since June 2025, licensed dispensaries can only supply cannabis flower to people with a prescription from a practitioner licensed in Thailand. This applies to Thai citizens, residents and visitors alike. Medical cards and prescriptions from other countries are not accepted. A prescription covers a specific amount for a limited period. If you visit CannaBuri, our staff can explain how the process works.
Age limits
You must be 20 or older. Pregnant and breastfeeding women cannot be supplied.
Smoking in public
Smoking cannabis in public places, including streets, beaches, bars and restaurants, is not allowed and can lead to fines. Many hotels and condominiums also ban it on their premises, so check your accommodation’s rules.

Travelling with cannabis
Do not take cannabis out of Thailand, even if you bought it legally here. Exporting it is a criminal offence, and most other countries treat cannabis as illegal on arrival.
Driving
Do not drive, ride a motorbike or operate machinery after using cannabis.
What a licensed dispensary looks like
A licensed shop holds a controlled-herb sale licence, keeps records of every sale, and can show a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) for each batch of flower. CannaBuri’s licence number is ขบ-3-1617/2569.

Where to check for updates
Rules are under review, including a draft Cannabis and Hemp Act. The Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine and the Ministry of Public Health publish official updates.
